Let us look at the latest trends of mobile learning in 2017:

Different Content Formats :- Different learners have different preferences towards course content type. This could be text, videos, short nuggets, games etc. It is important to host variety of content formats to meet individual learning preferences so that learners can have choice to consume the content as per their need. For example: at an instance learner might want a long text content while travelling and then look for short nuggets or videos while having coffee break at workplace. This will keep them engaged and connected with the mobile app all the more.

Tin Can API :- Tin Can API a descendant to SCORM is the newest standard in learning technology. API allows recording of activities and delivery of data that is measureable, sharable, and trackable. Mobile learning activities such as simulations, serious games, experiential learning, social learning etc. are captured by Tin Can API. Rapid authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate 8, and Lectora Inspire are capable of producing Tin Can-compatible course content.

Gamification :- Organizations are keener towards investing in gamified content like serious games to make the learning process more engaging and thereby improving learner’s productivity. Game based learning motivates learners to perform better.
Location Based Learning- Since companies operate in diverse geographies, they have a dispersed audience. So Geo Location features help in identifying the learner’s location and deliver relevant learning content/course to the learner. Location-based learning makes learning experience easy by allowing learners access the required learning material, anytime and anywhere.

Micro Learning :- Micro learning is a phenomenon in which learning happens through small bite sized training assets. These assets help learners consume course content during tea breaks, lunch breaks etc. Therefore it is also known as snack learning. Micro learning provides quick guide tutorials that are easily consumable.

Videos :- Videos intensify discussions and keep learners engaged, capture quick attention, contains smaller portions of information which is easy to absorb, includes pictures, captions etc.  Videos improve the overall learning experience of the learners by inviting them to analyze and think. Video helps learners retain and apply concepts. Video quality, cost and time involved in creating a video are important factors to be kept in mind while including videos in the learning methodologies.

Mobile technology is the most preferred way to train employees and around 47% of the organizations are using mobile learning for their training needs and this percentage will keep increasing.
